D00R

Overview

D00R is an escrow for attention bonds on Solana. You open an inbox and set a price, called a bond. A stranger who wants to reach you locks that bond in a vault and leaves one encrypted message. Then one of three things happens:

EndingWho triggers itWhere the bond goes
ReplyThe recipient, any timeAll of it back to the sender
Spam markThe recipient, before the deadline95% to the recipient, 5% buys D00R and burns it
ExpiryAnyone, once the deadline has passedAll of it back to the sender

An honest sender ends at zero net cost: only the Solana network fee is spent. The small deposit that stores the message comes back too, whichever way the knock ends. The only path where a sender loses money is a spam mark, and every inbox shows how often, and for how much, its owner has used it.

Where the idea comes from

D00R did not invent attention bonds. Philip Raymond proposed sender bonds for email in the 1990s. In 2004 Thede Loder, Marshall Van Alstyne and Rick Wash analysed them as "attention bonds": the sender stakes money and the recipient decides whether to claim it. Email had no neutral place to hold the money and no way to hand it back, so the idea stayed on paper. Earn.com sold paid messages and charged the sender every time; Coinbase bought it in 2018 and the paid inbox closed.

D00R adds the missing piece: a vault nobody has to trust. The program holds every open bond and moves it by the rules above, and nobody, including whoever deployed it, can move it any other way.

What D00R is not

  • Not a paid DM. Honest senders pay nothing net.
  • Not a game, a launchpad or a memecoin. The D00R token exists for two jobs: spam fees buy it and burn it, and claiming an inbox name burns it.
  • Not a server. There is no backend database. Messages live on chain, encrypted to the recipient's key, until the knock ends.

Status

Pre-launch. The program is built and tested on a local validator (34 tests, a 33-transaction smoke run on Agave 2.3.13). It is not deployed to devnet or mainnet yet, and no D00R token address exists until launch. The app at /app runs against live mainnet data in preview; the buttons that send money read "Opens at launch".

AI agents will knock too. An agent that wants a human's attention puts money behind it, under the same rules as a person.
